It’s too early to talk about the end of the championship race. There is “RB Leipzig”, there is “Bayer”. Currently, these teams are able to consistently show good results. The same cannot be said for Borussia Dortmund. BVB lost for the fourth time in 11 rounds and came out of the top four.
Did “Borussia” fail the match or did “Stuttgart” play it perfectly? Both the first and the second. The Suebi created enough chances to score more than five goals. But Dortmund slept most of the game. The BVB had no pressure, they had no speed in attack, which cannot be said for “Stuttgart”.
The young “Stuttgart” team, consisting of former Dortmund scout Sven Mislintat, locked BVB in their half of the field in the first 30 minutes, and after countless missed chances, they were able to score the first goal only from the spot of penalty. Djan dropped Klimovich in a desperate jump, and the penalty kick was noticed by Wamangituk.
Borussia scored a return goal from scratch. Guerreiro made a precise long ball, Reina took the ball with one foot and struck with the other – great execution.
In the second half Borussia’s luck ran out. “Stuttgart” found free zones between the central and lateral defense of BVB, continued to select balls and win martial arts in the rival half of the field and made a real cold shower for “Borussia”, scoring three goals in 11 minutes. Wamangituka, Foerster, Kulibali found attacking positions too easily, the BVB defense was a laughingstock.
After the score was 4: 1 in favor of “Stuttgart”, there were still about 30 minutes to play and the guests gave the initiative to BVB. The “Borussia” provided the pressure, but failed to score a single goal. Also, in the end, Schultz made an inaccurate pass and Gonzalez noticed a one-on-one outing from his half of the field.
First of all, it is the defeat of a coach. To have players like Hummels, Guerreiro, Vitzel, Sancho, Reina on the field and not blind any of them, you have to try. But some Borussia players are also responsible for these disastrous results. Sancho still can’t find himself, Royce was completely invisible, Akanji is failing on defense. All teams have bad days, but losing 1-5 at home is a shame.
Lucien Favre’s contract with Borussia is valid until the summer and will definitely not be extended. But maybe you should at least think about early departure? It can only get worse.
