Today, October 16, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that his country is ready to withdraw from the single market and the EU customs union without concluding a new free trade agreement. The European Union is still preparing for a new round of trade talks next week.
Reported by Reuters.
According to Johnson, Brexit could come without a trade deal, as the European Union seriously refused to negotiate. He added that if Brussels does not change course, there will be no agreement.
“I came to the conclusion that we should prepare for January 1 with agreements that are more reminiscent of Australians, based on simple principles of global free trade,” said the prime minister.
Recall that at Thursday’s Brexit summit between the EU and the UK, Brussels issued an ultimatum, stating that it was concerned about the lack of progress and urged London to give up on controversial key points or prepare to leave without a deal on 1 January.
Also earlier, the European Union officially notified Britain of its breach of the Brexit deal after the House of Commons of the British Parliament finally endorsed the domestic market bill.
In addition, the European Commission said Britain’s attempts to reinterpret the agreement undermine trust between the parties.
