“I welcome the news of the acquittal of the Ukrainian National Guard Vitaly Markiv in Italy. Congratulations to everyone involved in this result. There is justice and it is worth fighting for!” The ambassador wrote.
We will recall, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy welcomed the Italian court’s decision to release the Ukrainian National Guard, Vitaly Markiv, from prison. He thanked everyone “who not only worked, but really fought, both for the freedom of Vitaly Markiv and for the victory of truth and justice.”
Today, the National Guard Vitaly Markiv was acquitted by the Milan court of appeal. He was found not guilty of the murder of Italian journalist Andrea Rocheli during hostilities in Donbas in the spring of 2014.
At the same time, on June 12, an Italian court sentenced Markiv to 24 years in prison for the alleged murder of Rocchelli.
