Biden will take office on January 20
President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration will be shortened compared to traditional ceremonies. Taking office will not jeopardize the health of Americans amid the coronavirus pandemic.
This was announced by the new head of the future White House administration, Ron Klein, reports Reuters.
“Obviously, this will not be the inauguration that we had in the past,” he said.
The Democratic president-elect has been repeatedly attacked by Republican President Donald Trump for wearing a mask and applying other measures to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 during the White House campaign.
Trump, who did not follow these same precautions, contracted COVID-19 himself in early October, and there have been several cases among White House employees and in his own family.
Klein said Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will continue to push for security measures after taking office on January 20, but did not elaborate.
The president’s inauguration has traditionally included the new president’s oath and speech at the United States Capitol in front of a meeting on the National Mall, as well as a dinner with lawmakers and a reception at the White House.
Remember that Donald Trump does not recognize the victory of his opponent Joe Biden in the US elections. In his opinion, Biden won only “in the eyes of the fake media.”
In early November, Donald Trump accused his presidential rival Joe Biden of plans to declare a multi-year quarantine.
