September 24, 2020, 12:15 PM
Already today, the winner of the Champions League Bayern Munich will face the queen of the Europa League Sevilla in the match for the UEFA Super Cup. The game will take place in Budapest and will be important for other events in the world of football. The fact is that the participation of spectators will be allowed -although in a quantity not exceeding 30% of the capacity of the Ferenc Puskas stadium-, that is, no more than 11,600 people.
Subsequent matches in UEFA competition will be played without spectators until the organization decides otherwise. However, there is little doubt that if the Budapest experiment is successful, it could accelerate the return of fans to stadiums.
Bayern – Seville
September 24, 10:00 p.m., Budapest, Puskas Arena. Chief Referee: Anthony Taylor. Live broadcast on the Football 3 television channel.
Bayern before the game with Sevilla managed to start in the Bundesliga, having fought with Schalke. Although “battle” is said very loudly. In fact, for a long time the Gelsenkirchens crisis was simply humiliated at the Allianz-Arena – 8: 0.
Sevilla, while Granada and Betis scored six points in the first two matchdays, have yet to start the Spanish Championship. The last official game of the “Nervets” is the final of the Europa League with Inter (3: 2) just over a month ago. On September 15, Julen Lopetegi’s team beat Levante in sparring – 3: 2.
Bavaria has only one personnel problem: Kingsley Coman will not play due to the coronavirus. And even then, not to mention that it is such a big problem: summer rookie Leroy Sane in a duel against Schalke gave two assists and scored another goal himself.
Sevilla have a little more holes in the squad: midfielder Ever Banega left for Al-Shabab and left-back Sergio Regilón, on loan from Real Madrid, returned to Madrid (and then moved to Tottenham). The former can be replaced by Ivan Rakitic, who returned to Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán from Barcelona through this window, and the latter, either by the proven fighter Santiago Escudero, or bought from Sporting Lisbon Marcos Acuña.
Before this duel, the paths of the “Nervión” and the Munich team crossed only once, in the quarterfinals of the 2017/18 Champions League. Then Bayern won the first game (Sarabia’s goal was an own goal by Jesús Navas and an accurate shot by Thiago Alcantara), and in Munich the teams played zero.
This is Sevilla’s sixth appearance in the UEFA Super Cup. The Spanish club won the trophy only for the first time (in 2006), and then there were defeats in 2007 and from 2014 to 2016. Bayern also won the trophy only once, in 2013, and suffered defeats in 1975, 1976 and 2001. Who will win their second Super Bowl?
