Former Kremlin prisoner Vladimir Balukh has a broken arm and clavicle, said another former political prisoner, Ukrainian film director Oleg Sentsov.

Former political prisoner Volodymyr Balukh was beaten by strangers at night, reported on Facebook Ukrainian director, former political prisoner of the Kremlin Oleg Sentsov.

“Balukh was beaten tonight. They found him only in the morning. He is now in hospital. His condition is serious. Details are being investigated,” he wrote.

Later, the director added that Balukh’s arm and clavicle were broken, but there was no threat to his life.

Farmer Balukh was detained in Crimea after a search in December 2016. According to the FSB, bullets were found in the attic of his house and TNT sticks.

In August 2017, another criminal case was opened against Balukh, at the request of the director of the Razdolnensky temporary detention center, Valery Tkachenko, who claimed that the activist had beaten him. According to the Ukrainian defense, Tkachenko himself attacked Balukh, beat him and insulted him.

Lawyers and human rights activists argue that Balukh became a victim of repression for his pro-Ukrainian position, due to the Ukrainian flag, which was hung in the courtyard of his house.

In July 2018, in the total of two criminal cases, Balukh was sentenced to five years in a general regime colony and a fine of 10,000 rubles. (about 4 thousand UAH). In his last speech, the Ukrainian declared a political motive for the persecution. In October, the so-called Supreme Court of occupied Crimea reduced Balukh’s prison sentence by one month.

On September 7, 2019, Balukh returned to Ukraine as part of the detainee exchange between Ukraine and Russia.
