It became known about the dismissal of one of the deputy directors of the RRB: we are talking about Alexander Babikov, who held the position of first deputy in this department since January 2020. This was reported by “RBK-Ukraine” with reference to a source in law enforcement agencies.
“Yes, indeed, Babikov has been fired,” the source said.
It is known that the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption insisted on Babikov’s dismissal. In particular, Alexander Novikov, director of the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption, stated that he had a conflict of interest.
It was previously reported that Babikov worked at the Aver Lex law firm, which defended Viktor Yanukovych. Before Maidan, he headed the oversight department of agencies fighting organized crime and corruption in the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office. In 2012, while in this post, Babikov stated that Interpol had put Arsen Avakov, the then governor of the region, on the wanted list, who had an aggravated conflict with Yanukovych and his team. As a lawyer, Babikov defended Dmitry Ivantsov, Yanukovych’s bodyguard.
Babikov himself denied that, as a lawyer, he defended Yanukovych. According to him, he signed several “technical documents” in the cases of other lawyers who defended the former president.
