Azerbaijan has started commercial gas supply to European countries bypassing the Russian Federation. Deliveries are made through the Trans-Adriatic Gas Pipeline (TAP).

Interfax-Azerbaijan reports this with reference to the local Ministry of Energy.

“Azerbaijan has started commercial gas supply to Europe through TAP and thus achieved the strategic objective in the implementation of the Southern Gas Corridor project,” the Energy Ministry said.

Baku is also reported to supply more than 10 billion cubic meters of gas to Europe annually for 25 years. Italy will receive about 8 billion cubic meters, the rest – Greece, Bulgaria and other neighboring markets.

Please note that this year the construction of the TAP, whose total length is 878 km, has been completed. It is the last component of the Southern Gas Corridor project for the direct supply of Azerbaijani gas to Europe.

We recall, previously it was reported that Ukraine and Azerbaijan will study the possibility of expanding the Southern Gas Transportation Corridor. In particular, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes that Baku could use Ukraine’s transit potential.
