Not everyone wants to stab AstraZeneca
As in other EU countries, the AstraZeneca vaccine was recommended in Germany for people under 65 years of age.
The prime ministers of several federal states in Germany are calling for the AstraZeneca vaccine to be available to everyone due to the high rejection rate in priority groups, Spiegel reports.
In Germany, the priority groups are clearly defined, who should be the first to receive vaccines. But with many reluctant to get vaccinated with AstraZeneca, fears are mounting that these doses will not be used in warehouses, while other people continue to wait in line.
As in other EU countries, the AstraZeneca vaccine was recommended in Germany for people under 65 years of age. At the same time, among the younger population of “risk groups” they also do not want to be vaccinated because the declared level of effectiveness is lower than that of Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna, and therefore the risk of adverse reactions is slightly higher.
By midweek, Germany had only used 239,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine out of 1.4 million received.
Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Zjoder suggested that the doses already “at rest” in warehouses should be used to vaccinate everyone.
“Not a single vial of vaccine can be thrown away or thrown away, because each vaccinated person receives protection for himself and for everyone,” he said.
The call was also joined by the Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg, Winfried Kretschmann, and the Prime Minister of Saxony, Michael Kretschmer.
Previously, the government said it plans to offer the AstraZeneca vaccine to key government officials to increase confidence in it.
Recent polls show that 34% of Germans do not plan to get vaccinated against the coronavirus at all.
Let us remember that in Poland the AstraZeneca vaccine was recommended for people under 70 years of age. Previously, in Poland, the drug was recommended to be used for people under the age of 60, then the age of patients was increased to 65 years.
The only vaccine that has already reached Ukraine is Covishield, the Indian analog of AstraZeneca.
