The results of mass testing of a possible coronavirus vaccine developed by AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford should be available by Christmas. Meanwhile, the drug shows the ability to develop immunity in patients older than 70 years.
Reported by Reuters.
Phase III trials are still ongoing, but the developers already note that the drug has a positive response from the body in volunteers older than 70 years. There was a strong antibody and T-cell response when the drug was administered, which is considered “encouraging.”
Recall that the results of the massive trials of the vaccine have already been announced by the developers of Moderna, as well as by Pfizer and BioNTech. Both candidate vaccines have been shown to be approximately 95% effective with a two-dose course of treatment.
Several countries have already agreed to supply vaccines from these companies. The United States expects to receive 20 million doses by the end of the year.
Chief Medical Officer Viktor Lyashko said that Ukraine will receive eight million doses of vaccines through the global COVAX mechanism in the first half of 2021. Among them, the favorites are only drugs from Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca, as they were further than others in tests.
At the same time, Ahmed al-Mandari, director of the World Health Organization Office for the Eastern Mediterranean, said that no coronavirus vaccine has yet been finalized. Four vaccines are in the final stages of development.
