In Nagorno-Karabakh, the forward command post of the 18th Motorized Rifle Division of the Armenian Armed Forces was destroyed. Among those killed was the division’s chief of staff, Colonel Sergei Shakaryan. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan on its website.
“Attack attempts were suppressed, enemy units withdrew and suffered losses,” the ministry said in a statement.
Fighting continued in the Khojavend, Fizuli and Gubadli front areas. Azerbaijan accused Armenia of bombing positions and settlements during the new humanitarian ceasefire.
On October 26, a ceasefire came into force in Nagorno-Karabakh. The corresponding agreements were reached by Azerbaijan and Armenia with the mediation of the United States. The third truce began at 08:00 local time (07:00 Moscow time), but soon the parties accused each other of violating the silence.
In 1991, Nagorno-Karabakh, whose majority population was Armenian, declared its independence from Azerbaijan. Baku tried to return the region by force, a war broke out. In 1994, Azerbaijan, Armenia, and the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) signed a truce.
