Armenia has prohibited men between the ages of 18 and 55 from leaving the country without the permission of the territorial military police stations, reports Sputnik Armenia with reference to the Civil Aviation Committee.
«According to the decision made by the Armenian government on September 27, 2020, the call for under-55s was announced. Men between the ages of 18 and 55 are allowed to leave the country only with the written permission of the territorial military police stations, ”explained the Civil Aviation Committee.
Earlier, the senior adviser to the Armenian prime minister, Vagharshak Harutyunyan, stated that the country is preparing for a long-term war.
The fighting between Armenian and Azerbaijani troops on the line of contact in Nagorno-Karabakh began on the night of September 27. Azerbaijan and Armenia introduced martial law and announced the mobilization of the reserve.
Both countries blame each other for the escalation of the conflict and declare casualties in combat and casualties among the population.
The international community called on Armenia and Azerbaijan to immediately cease hostilities and to sit at the negotiating table.
The conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia continues over Nagorno-Karabakh. In 1988, the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Region, inhabited mainly by Armenians, announced its withdrawal from the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic.
In 1994, mediated by Moscow, a ceasefire agreement was signed, which ended active hostilities in the region, but left Karabakh and the surrounding regions of Azerbaijan under Armenian control.
More than 30,000 people died during the six years of the war.
The peace accord came to a standstill after talks between the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan in 2009.
