The Armenian Defense Ministry stated that on 12 December the Azerbaijani side resumed offensive actions in the direction of the Stary Taglar – Khtsaberd villages in Nagorno-Karabakh.

“Subdivisions Defense Army [Карабаха] taking appropriate measures, ”the statement said on the Armenian ministry’s website.

The Russian Defense Ministry, whose blue helmets are in Karabakh, reported that the previous day, on December 11, a violation of the ceasefire had been recorded. The situation on December 12 was not reported.

“In At 23 observation posts, Russian peacekeeping forces are monitoring the situation 24 hours a day and monitoring the observance of the ceasefire. On December 11 there was a case of violation of the ceasefire regime in the Hadrut region, ”says the bulletin of the Russian department.

Earlier, the Karabakh Defense Army reported that the Azerbaijani armed forces tried to attack one of the Armenian military positions in the southern direction, writes the Armenian Radio Liberty service. Three soldiers were reportedly injured.

The Karabakh Defense Army also stated that it refutes information disseminated in the Azerbaijani media about the alleged armed provocation by the Armenian forces in the Hadrut area, as a result of which an Azerbaijani soldier was injured.

The Azerbaijani side has yet to comment on the situation.

On November 10, Armenia signed an agreement with Azerbaijan and Russia to end the war in Nagorno-Karabakh. This sparked massive protests in Yerevan: Protesters seized the country’s government and parliament building.

As part of the peace agreement, Armenia agreed to transfer three regions under the control of Azerbaijan: Agdam, Kelbajar and Lachin, as well as part of the Gazakh region. The so-called Lachin corridor, the highway connecting the center of Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia, and the line of contact of the parties, by agreement, must be controlled by the peacekeeping forces – the Russian and Turkish military.

Soon, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan declared that the decision to end the war in Nagorno-Karabakh was taken under pressure from the Armenian army and called the situation «a great failure and a great disaster. ”At the same time, he indicated that he was not going to resign.

Large-scale hostilities between Armenian and Azerbaijani troops on the line of contact in Nagorno-Karabakh resumed on the night of September 27, 2020.

Both countries blamed each other for the escalation of the conflict and reported combat casualties and civilian and military casualties.

The conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia continues over Nagorno-Karabakh. In 1988, the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Region, inhabited mainly by Armenians, announced its withdrawal from the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic.

In 1994, mediated by Moscow, a ceasefire agreement was signed that ended active hostilities in the region, but left Karabakh and the surrounding regions of Azerbaijan under Armenian control.

More than 30,000 people have died during the six years of the war.

The peace accord came to a standstill after talks between the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan in 2009.
