The People’s Artist of the USSR, Armen Dzhigarkhanyan, died at the age of 86. The artist’s death was reported to Russian news agencies by his official representative Artur Soghomonyan.

According to him, the actor died on Saturday night, at 6 am Moscow time. He did not specify the reasons for Dzhigarkhanyan’s death. The date and place of the farewell will be announced later.

Armen Dzhigarkhanyan was born in Yerevan in 1935. He began acting in films in the early 1960s and has acted in more than 250 films, while working in the theater. He even entered the Guinness Book of Records as the most filmed Russian actor.

Among the most famous roles of Dzhigarkhanyan: a bandit named Humpback in the serial movie “The Meeting Place Cannot Be Changed”, Judge Kriegs in the comedy “Hello, I’m Your Aunt” and Captain Ovechkin in the last two parts of the trilogy about the elusive avengers.

The artist worked with directors such as Georgy Danelia, Karen Shakhnazarov and Stanislav Govorukhin. He directed films and plays himself, and in 1996 founded the Armen Dzhigarkhanyan Moscow Drama Theater.
