“That is, apples in May will cost three times more than at this time,” predicted agricultural experts.
The reason why Ukrainian apples are more expensive than imported ones is explained by the fact that in Ukraine most apples are processed into juice and exported in bulk. Therefore, there is little left for sale within the country.
“If the berry harvest is good and there will be no big frosts in May, the probability of a price of 50 hryvnias will be less and less as people will switch from apples to berries. If there are no berries available, it will be 100 hryvnias, like in June of recent years, then people will probably buy an apple at a price of 55-75 “, – explains agricultural market expert Alexander Khorev.
At the same time, experts say, a good fruit harvest is expected this year. At least in the Kiev region.
“The snowy winter contributed to the harvest and the forecast for spring is good. Forecasters do not promise severe frosts for the flowering period of fruit trees, so there will be a lot of apples in the fall,” experts say.
