As expected, on December 8, Apple expanded its AirPods line of wireless earbuds with a new top-of-the-line model. The novelty, which appeared in numerous leaks under the designation AirPods Studio, was called AirPods Max. Pricing in the US (excluding tax) is $ 549, pre-orders at the US Apple online store will open today, and actual sales will begin on December 15.
Unlike previous AirPods, the new model has a full-size design and highlights, as the manufacturer emphasizes, the “original acoustic design”.
Specifically, Apple highlights the following AirPods Max design features:
- The upholstery of the headphones is made of breathable knitted mesh material, which ensures even distribution of the weight of the headphones and thus reduces pressure on the head.
- A stainless steel headband frame provides strength, flexibility and comfort for a wide variety of head shapes and sizes, while the telescopic temples smoothly and securely extend into position for a snug, comfortable fit.
- Each earbud is attached to the headband using a revolutionary mechanism that balances and distributes pressure to the ears and independently adjusts the position to suit the individual head shape of the user.
- Each ear pad uses a special “acoustic” memory foam to ensure a perfect fit.
The Apple AirPods Max wireless headphones are equipped with 40mm drivers with two neodymium ring magnets and a pair of Apple H1 brand processors already known from other AirPods models (one in each ear).
A distinctive feature of Apple AirPods Max is a control wheel on one of the cups, reminiscent of the Apple Watch’s digital crown. With it, you can control music playback (adjust volume, pause playback, switch songs) answer calls and call the Siri voice assistant. The oval button is responsible for activating the noise cancellation system and a special smart mode that allows external noise to pass through.
Other benefits of Apple AirPods Max include adaptive equalizer and automatic switching between devices. However, this is also in AirPods Pro.
A Bluetooth 5.0 interface is used to connect to a sound source and a proprietary Lightning connector is used for charging.
As for the autonomy of the Apple AirPods Max, the manufacturer promises up to 20 hours of battery life on a single charge with the noise cancellation system activated. There is support for fast charging (in 5 minutes of charging, you can get 1.5 hours of work).
The package includes a Smart Case, which not only performs a protective function when transported, but also saves energy (when the headphones are placed in the case, a low power mode is activated).
Apple AirPods Max are available in five body colors that echo the iPhone 12 palette: white, black, green, blue, and red.
To reiterate, in the US, pre-orders for the $ 549 Apple AirPods Max open today, with actual sales beginning a week later on December 15. The price of hryvnia and the conditions of availability for Ukraine are still unknown.
