Seized cultural property can be transferred to the museum fund of Ukraine
The SBU prevented the export of weapons and antique coins worth almost a million dollars abroad. The attackers planned to sell antiques in the EU.
Employees of the Security Service of Ukraine did not allow smugglers to export nearly a million dollars worth of ancient weapons and antiquities to the EU. The seized items were sent for examination, reports the department’s press service.
“Among those discovered: 21 pieces of sharpened weapons from different periods, including antiques, armor, gold and silver coins from the time of Kiev Rus, as well as from 1800-1900, numerous ancient household items,” he said in the message.
The ministry noted that the smugglers planned to transport cultural values to the European Union and sell them there.
“Contraband goods were sent to their foreign customers through international postal services.
In the framework of criminal proceedings, the question of informing the group organizers about the suspicions under Part 2 of art. 15 and part 1 of art. 201 (smuggling) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Upon completion of the pre-trial investigation, the issue of the transfer of seized cultural property to the museum fund of Ukraine will be examined.
As previously reported, Ukrainian diplomats transported 16 kg of gold and $ 140,000. They illegally transported goods from Ukraine to EU countries, using diplomatic privileges and immunities, as well as official transportation.
We add, in Kiev, the SBU arrested the gang leaders. The money raised was used by the group’s organizers to support representatives of criminal circles who are serving their sentences.
