Victor Babariko called for the main tasks of the party to carry out the constitutional reform and unite civil initiatives.

Viktor Babariko’s headquarters, denied registration by the Belarusian Central Election Commission in the country’s presidential elections, announced the creation of a party called Juntos.

Babariko said this in a video message posted on Twitter. The former head of Belgazprombank has been detained since mid-June and the appeal appears to have been filed prior to his arrest.

“The time has come to announce the continuation of our fight, but with the presence of some kind of organizational form in which it is possible to unite all the supporters,” Babariko said.

He called on the main tasks of the party to carry out constitutional reform and unite civil initiatives.

Documents for the party’s registration will be presented in the near future, said Maria Kolesnikova, representative of the Babariko headquarters and member of the Presidium of the Coordination Council of the Belarusian opposition.

“We are forming a new, conscientious and responsible Belarusian society,” he emphasized, adding that more has been done in the last three months than in 26 years.

It should be noted that the Opposition Coordination Council, created at the initiative of former presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, will continue to work in the same format. The initiative of the Babariko headquarters to create the party was coordinated “with those members of the Presidium of the Constitutional Court with whom it was possible due to objective circumstances,” the council said.

The day before, the Opposition Coordination Council issued a statement. The arrest of a member of the Presidium of the Belarusian Opposition Coordination Council, Lilia Vlasova, by the special services was interpreted there as an unwillingness of the authorities to engage in dialogue.
