Kiev Pechersk Court released Sergey Drozdov, Commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on personal obligation. He is suspected of negligence, which caused the crash of the An-26 plane and the death of 26 soldiers.
This is reported by hromadske.
According to the investigation, in 2018 Drozdov passed a temporary pilot course, which provided the opportunity for fifth-year cadets to conduct conveyor belt flights on An-26 aircraft. However, this decision was not approved by the manufacturer as required by the procedure.
Thus, according to the investigation, Drozdov created a misconception among the military about the legal and safe use of transporter flights among cadets.
“In addition, in February 2020, the Air Force Commander approved a decision that provided for the joint training of pilot cadets and cadet navigators on the An-26 aircraft using fuel allocated for the training of cadet pilots,” said Prosecutor Anton Zelensky .
According to the investigation, this led to the fact that there were more cadets on board than necessary.
Recall that Air Force commander Sergei Drozdov, who was handed a suspicion in the case of the AN-26 disaster, is suspected of negligence.
Let us remind you that the AN-26 plane crash took place on September 25 in the Kharkov region near Chuguev. The aircraft of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine crashed during a training flight. As a result, 26 people died.
Earlier, RBC-Ukraine wrote that Ukroboronprom did not find any violations during the maintenance of the AN-26 aircraft.
The reason for the downfall of the AN-26, according to the investigation, is a combination of wrong decisions by the aircraft crew and military unit, as well as leadership. The suspects face up to 15 years in prison.
