Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan destroyed what was created before him in the framework of the Nagorno-Karabakh negotiation process, Ilham Aliyev said.
The Azerbaijani authorities have never refused to negotiate on Nagorno-Karabakh, but this process cannot be unilateral. President Ilham Aliyev said this in an interview with the Al Jazeera television channel, his press service reported on Saturday, October 3.
“We have never refused to negotiate. In previous years, we went through difficult times in the negotiation process, not everything went well, but we had a process. Former leaders of Armenia and we developed a phased approach. Otherwise, we did not we would have been involved in the process for so long. It was not a wasted moment. I think we have made a lot of progress, “Aliyev said.
He highlighted that he had participated in the negotiation process since 2003 and noted that he had worked with the two former presidents of Armenia. “We made progress and it was not easy. We had many disagreements. However, we progressed step by step and developed what we have achieved up to this point,” said the Azerbaijani president.
According to Aliyev, upon coming to power, the current Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, “destroyed what came before him.”
“He destroyed all the established principles. All the responsibility lies with him and his government,” said the Azerbaijani leader.
In his words, after the Armenian prime minister’s declaration that “Karabakh is Armenia”, the negotiations basically stopped.
“After this statement, I had meetings with the Prime Minister of Armenia. However, the meetings were absolutely meaningless and had a formal character. He told me that the territories would not be returned. principles and destroy the negotiations, so what can we talk about after that? ”Aliyev added.
Negotiations cannot be held unilaterally, continued the President of Azerbaijan. “We must have a partner. However, in the person of Armenia, we still do not have a partner in the negotiations,” Aliyev concluded.
Earlier today it emerged that Aliyev received a call from French President Emmanuel Macron. He called for a ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh.
In turn, the President of Azerbaijan evaluated the role of Russia in the negotiations on Karabakh.
