The newly elected mayor of Konotop, Alexander Lugovoi, has died. He was sick with coronavirus.

People’s MP Igor Molotok announced this on his Facebook page.

“The newly elected mayor of Konotop, Alexander Lugovoi, has passed away. Terrible news and great loss. He won the election and fought desperately for life with an insidious disease. It seemed that the worst was over, but it was not,” wrote the parliamentarian .

He ran for mayor of Konotop as a self-nominated candidate and won 37% of the vote.

It should be noted that on October 31, Lugovoi announced the stabilization of his condition after an illness.

“Friends! My health has stabilized, and next week I plan to return to Konotop … The pre-election process in 2020 was not easy for me due to illness, but thank God, everything went well,” wrote the mayor.
