In St. Petersburg, the famous biologist Alexander Kagansky was found murdered.

As noted, the day before, on December 19, a local resident called the police and said that a half-naked man fell through the 14th floor window. The police who responded to the call identified the deceased. Signs of violent death were also found on his body.
According to Interfax, Kagansky’s body was found in the courtyard of a 16-story building on Zamshin Street. According to preliminary data, shortly before the tragedy there was a conflict between the scientist and his acquaintance, who was visiting him.
A criminal case was opened by law enforcement officers under Article 105 Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Murder”). A 45-year-old local resident was arrested on suspicion of a crime. The question of choosing a preventive measure and pressing charges is now being decided.
According to Fontanka, Kagansky was a well-known biologist in scientific circles. He studied and worked in the United States, where he established an epigenetics laboratory. In recent years, he worked at the Far Eastern Federal University, directing the Center for Genomic and Regenerative Medicine. He dedicated himself to oncogenesis, cancer research and was one of the ideological inspirers of the international movement for the study and conservation of the Earth’s biodiversity.
