The leak was recorded in September 2019.
11.5 hours after finding the place of the air leak and pasting it with a film, the air began to escape twice as slowly and the pressure dropped. The astronauts want to repair the crack with American patches.
After on Thursday October 16, Russian cosmonauts discovered an air leak from the International Space Station (ISS) with a tea bag and closed the “hole”, the air began to flow twice as slowly. RIA writes about this, referring to the crew’s negotiations with Earth, which are broadcast by NASA.
The “slit”, which allowed air to pass, was located in the middle chamber of the Russian Zvezda module. There is scientific equipment.
Cosmonauts Anatoly Ivanishin and Ivan Wagner glued the module with aluminum foil and closed the hatch to control the pressure. As a result, overnight the pressure dropped 52 millimeters (to 681 millimeters of mercury) and the leak rate dropped to about four millimeters per hour from seven to nine earlier.
According to the astronauts’ negotiations with the Mission Control Center, the ISS wants to seal the rift with more durable American patches.
“The pressure continues to drop, but not so fast. Maybe we can test the toughest patches our partners have,” Ivanishin said.
Note that the ISS air leak was recorded in September of last year. At the same time, Roskosmos stated that he does not threaten the ISS crew or the international station flight.
Now on the ISS are NASA astronauts Christopher Cassidy and Kathleen Rubins and Russian cosmonauts Anatoly Ivanishin, Ivan Wagner, Sergei Ryzhikov, Sergei Kud-Sverchkov.
Previously, an air leak was searched on the ISS with confetti.
