Hikmet Hajiyev explained why Azerbaijan started hostilities

There will be no peace in the South Caucasus without the de-occupation of Azerbaijani lands, said Hikmet Hajiyev.

Azerbaijan considers the current aggravation in Nagorno-Karabakh to be a “patriotic war”. The assistant to the president of Azerbaijan, head of the foreign policy department of the presidential administration, Hikmet Hajiyev, said this, Vestnik Kavkaza reported on Monday, September 28.

“This is the Great Patriotic War. Martial law has been declared on the territory of Azerbaijan, today a partial mobilization has been declared. Azerbaijan operates within the framework of international law, which cannot be said about the Armenian armed forces.” Hajiyev said, calling for “an end to the Armenian occupation.”

He stressed that the decision to launch a counteroffensive reaction was made after the Armenian Armed Forces carried out a large-scale provocation against the peaceful border villages in Azerbaijan.

“Right now, the battles are taking place along the entire front line. When Armenia faces problems at the front, it takes civilians at gunpoint, this is indicated in the military doctrine of Armenia, this is Evidence in the battles of April 2016, we saw it in the 90s. That is why today artillery attacks were carried out in the city of Tartarus, a carpet factory was destroyed, an attempt was made to shoot at a police station. As a result, 14 citizens were injured, ”he said.

Hajiyev noted that Azerbaijan understands the concern of the international community.

“But we are talking about a scenario planned in advance by Armenia, aimed at the occupation of our lands. Our troops are fighting on their territory to protect the civilian population. Armenia has recently pledged to interrupt the negotiation process so as not to return the occupied territories. The very presence of the Armenian Armed Forces in the occupied territories was already an aggression against Azerbaijan, and there will be no peace in the South Caucasus without the de-occupation of Azerbaijani lands, “said Hikmet Hajiyev.

Let us remind you that on the morning of September 27, Armenia and Azerbaijan resumed hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh, accusing each other of bombing border areas and provoking violence.

Many foreign countries, including Ukraine, and international organizations called for an end to the conflict.
