Ruslan Artykov is noted to have been detained by FSB agents in the city of Aksai, Rostov region, in the fall of 2019. He is suspected of collecting secret military information on the instructions of the Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

Artykov at the time served under contract in the 175th Southern Military District Command Brigade, stationed in Aksai.
