Both teams played well in the opening matches of the spring portion of the Ukrainian championship, having won two wins and two draws. Therefore, his desire to continue his undefeated streak was understandable. Furthermore, if successful, Vorskla could strengthen its fifth position in the Premier League standings, and Dnipro-1 had a chance to step away from the group of teams struggling to maintain a place in the elite division.
Opponents started the game at a good pace and quickly aged to move from defense to attack. But with the shots on goal, neither one nor the other at the beginning of the game did not work at all. And the first really dangerous moment came close to the guests’ goal in the 18th minute. Vorskla got the right to a promising free kick, which Till decided to take. The ball hit the wall and bounced toward Sklyar, who was already making his way a short distance away. Dnepryan was rescued by Yurchuk, who hit a corner kick. The Vorskla players showed the referee that after Till’s hit, the ball hit the hand of one of the Dnipro-1 players, but Viktor Kopievsky did not see the violation of the rules and continued the game.
The guests responded in the 27th minute, when Taylor took possession of the ball from a corner kick. He struck from about the penalty area line to the right corner of the goal, but missed. And in the 32nd minute, the home team created the opportunity to score again. Till down the right made a pass aimed at the goalkeeper’s line, where Kulach rushed over. The Poltava club forward hit his head at point blank range, but Yurchuk saved his team from a ball conceded for the second time in the match.
But in the 41st minute the goal was scored against Vorskla. It was Dovbik who grabbed the ball in the opponent’s half of the field, advanced with it and, without reaching the area, struck hard with his left foot under the crossbar. Most likely, Riznyk was unprepared for such a turn of events and didn’t get the ball.
So, with minimal guest advantage, the teams went to rest.
Immediately after the break in the 50th minute, Dnipro-1 was able to increase their lead. Worse still, having received the ball in the home team’s penalty area, he decided to shoot straight into the upper right corner of the goal. Riznyk would hardly have reached this ball, but it flew a few inches from the bar. And in minute 54, the guests were in the minority. Douglas dropped Stepanyuk in midfield and, having received the second warning in the match, was forced to leave the field early.
Having gained a numerical advantage, “Vorskla” came forward with great force and was able to recover already in the 63rd minute. First, a long-distance transfer from Chesnakov to Kana followed, and threw his head under the blow to Puzlin. Horvath shot from eight meters, but Yurchuk returned to play reliably and passed the ball over the goal line.
Dnipro also tried not to be left out on defense alone. On two occasions during the 68th and 69th minutes they organized good counterattacks, which were completed by Tsurikov and Dovbik. However, Riznyk controlled everything both times and took the ball in his hands.
In the 75th minute, after the corner kick was played, Perduta made a soft pass into the center of the penalty area over Yavorskiy, who hit his head near the far top corner. Two minutes later, in the fight against Dovbik, Chelyadin fell into the guests’ penalty area, but, as in the first half, the referee did not score a penalty, and even issued a warning to the Poltava player for simulation. And in the 87th minute, after a pass from Luizao’s right, El Niño headed in a header ten meters from the right post.
As a result, Dnipro-1 in the minority managed to keep the winning score to himself, beat Vorskla in Poltava for the first time and won three important points. For Yuri Maksimov’s charges, this is the first defeat in the second half of the national championship and only the fourth in 18 matches.
