The appointment of former top manager of Naftogaz Yuriy Vitrenko in the Ministry of Energy after his candidacy was not supported by the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine will be long remembered, believes former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin.

“In recent weeks, everyone has been discussing the constitutional crisis, in fact, we have a total institutional crisis, and the parliamentary-presidential republic is becoming a line in the Constitution. This needs to be changed,” Klimkin said.
December 17 Committee of Energy and Public Services of the Verkhovna Rada did not support the appointment of Vitrenko to the post of First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Energy of Ukraine. On the same day, Rada refused to support his candidacy… 186 People’s Deputies voted “in favor” with the required minimum of 226.
On December 21 it became known that Vitrenko applying for the post of deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine.
On the same day, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine removed Olga Buslavets from the post of First Deputy Minister of Energy at her request and appointed Vitrenko to this post. The functions of minister were also assigned to him.
Vitrenko has collaborated with Naftogaz since 2002. He was an advisor to the company’s leaders, in 2004-2005 he served as head of one of the NAK departments. In 2014 he returned to Naftogaz, was director of business development, and since 2018 is executive director. It participated in the Stockholm Arbitration, which satisfied Ukraine’s claims in disputes with Gazprom over the purchase and transit of Russian gas. He retired from the company in July 2020.
