A Russian detained in the Lugansk region said that since 2008 he led a branch of an organization whose activities are aimed at changing the current government of the Russian Federation, the press service of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry reported.

Since 2016, the man has actively supported the Ukrainian Azov regiment on social media and financially. He was repeatedly condemned for his opinions. Given the frequent threats and the possibility of another incarceration, he decided to flee the country.
To find out the circumstances of the illegal border crossing, the Russian was taken to the border unit. When drafting a case on an administrative offense under part 2 of art. 204-1 of the Code of Ukraine on administrative offenses (illegal crossing or attempted illegal crossing of the state border of Ukraine), the detainee applied for recognition as a refugee on the territory of Ukraine or a person requiring additional protection.
