Map of Russia with Crimea annexed

The image was withdrawn after an appeal by the Ukrainian authorities to the Alania city management with the corresponding request.

In the Turkish resort town of Alania, a sculpture with a map of the Russian Federation and Crimea annexed as its territory was found. After the intervention of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the image was removed. On Thursday, March 4, the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Emine Dzhaparova, recounted this on Facebook.

“During one of the international art festivals in the tourist city of Alania (Turkey), one of the sculptures, the author of which was a Russian citizen, showed a map of the Russian Federation with occupied Crimea,” said the politician.

Upon learning of this, the Ukrainian consul in Antalya, Emir Rustamov, visited the mayor of Alania, Adem Murat Yudzhel, and asked him to remove the card.

According to Dzhaparova, the reaction of the Turkish colleagues was immediate.

“Now art has not become a political instrument of influence and does not deceive the residents and guests of the wonderful city of Alania on the territory of the Russian Federation. Crimea is Ukraine!” – summed up the deputy director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that in 2014 Russian authorities would not annex the Crimean peninsula if Ukraine were a member of the alliance.
