The cause of death for a 30-year-old man from Transcarpathia, who received a donor heart, was massive internal organ failure.

This was said by the medical director of anesthesia work at the Lviv emergency hospital, Ivan Miskiv, reports Galnet. According to him, the patient’s long-term heart problems made themselves felt.

“The death was due to multiple organ failure. It was caused by liver and kidney failure. It was the consequences of heart failure, which caused the patient to need a transplant. Unfortunately, we could not cope with the decompensation in the liver and kidneys, “noted the doctor.

According to him, the man underwent several sessions of hemodialysis, geodiafiltration, extracorporeal oxygenation, but none of these steps gave the expected result and the patient’s life could not be saved.

“The patient was fully compatible with the donor, that is why we made the decision to transplant. The operation was successful. The heart got stuck. It works well. After the man’s death, there were no complaints about the work of the heart during the post-mortem exam, ”Miskiv said.

As OBOZREVATEL reported:

  • A Mukachevo resident, who received a donor heart from a Lviv woman, fought for her life after the operation for a week. His own heart was irreversibly damaged by complications from pneumonia – it stopped six times in one year.

  • Recall that in August a 45-year-old man died in Lviv, who was the first in Ukraine to undergo a pancreas transplant from an unrelated donor.
