The first part of the documentary “The Wrong Place” about the National Guard Vitaly Markiv, convicted of alleged involvement in the death of Italian photojournalist Andrea Rocchelli, was shown in the Italian parliament building. The audience watched a 35-minute segment of the film.
This was reported by Radio Liberty.
The filmmakers discovered new facts and contacted witnesses who did not participate in the trial in Pavia.
The tape contains many detailed professional explanations from cartographers, ballistics and other experts refuting the jury’s claim that from Markiv’s position in Karachun it was possible to distinguish human figures at a distance of more than a kilometer and a half.
The final part of the film will be ready in late fall. According to director Tinazzi, the documentary will be offered for distribution to international companies and for presentation at film festivals.
Participants in the presentation event expressed their hope that the film’s materials will contribute to an impartial consideration of the case in the second instance court, which begins in Milan on September 29.
Recall that in July 2019, the Italian court sentenced Vitaly Markiv to 24 years in prison.
In November, Ukraine filed an appeal in the Markiv case. The appeal was pending by the Lombardy Court of Appeal this spring.
Furthermore, the appeal in the Markiv case should be considered in one month.
