A diplomat was arrested at the Hungarian border for cigarette smuggling – State Border Service

The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported that a man smuggling cigarettes was traveling from Ukraine to Hungary through the Luzhanka checkpoint.

Ukrainian border guards at the Luzhanka checkpoint in the Transcarpathian region detained a Hungarian diplomat smuggling cigarettes. According to media reports, the detainee is a former member of the Hungarian Parliament. This was reported by the press service of the State Border Service of Ukraine.

Border guards said the man was traveling from Ukraine in a Seat car through the Luzhanka checkpoint. At the checkpoint, he showed a diplomatic passport, which is not accredited in Ukraine.

“According to the results of the inspection of the car, a joint group of border guards, operational officers of the State Border Service, representatives of the State Migration Service with the participation of representatives of the Consulate of Hungary in the trunk of the car found cigarettes without special stamps marked “For duty free onle”. What will be their quantity and cost, “says the message.

“Ukrainska Pravda”, which quotes journalist Dmitry Tuzhansky, reports that Zsolt Legin, a former member of the Hungarian Socialist Party parliament, was arrested in 2006-2010 and 2014-2018.

He added that during the inspection of the car, representatives of the Hungarian consulate in Beregovo, Transcarpathian region were present.
