On the eve of this match, there was much talk about which lineup Mircea Lucescu will play, taking into account the circumstances the Dynamo found themselves in. In principle, nothing unexpected happened, except that Artem Shabanov’s position on the left flank of the defense raised some doubts. However, the Kiev mentor had a very limited selection of players, so he had to choose from those who were available and healthy. As for Barcelona, their squad was practically fighter, led by Lionel Messi.
As expected, with the opening whistle, the home team took the ball and the advantage of the game. Already in the third minute, Antoine Griezmann was able to open the scoring, but at point-blank range he could not beat the young Dynamo goalkeeper Ruslan Neshcheret. But literally two minutes later, Denis Popov knocked the Catalan club’s captain down in his own penalty area and Lionel Messi himself clearly converted the penalty.
Barcelona continued attacking with great force and in the 6th minute the young Pedri shot from the penalty area to the crossbar. Fortunately for the guests, the ball did not cross the goal line and flew onto the field. And a minute later, Antoine Griezmann literally missed the corner of the goal a meter away.
There was still a good moment to increase Ansu Fati’s score in the 13th minute, after which the home team slowed down a bit and gave the Kievans the opportunity to make several attacks. In addition, “Dynamo” got a promising free kick and then a corner. But they did not have serious consequences. And in the 17th minute, Lionel Messi attacked dangerously again, hitting the far left corner. This time Ruslan Nesheret won the duel against the famous Argentine and turned the ball to the corner.
From about the middle of the half, the game leveled off and the people of Kiev became bolder to move on. Thus, in the 22nd minute, after a dangerous cross from the right by the goalkeeper’s court line, two of his teammates were ready to complete this combination, but Ter Stegen successfully and punctually kicked the ball into the field for Barcelona. And then, in the 35th minute, again after a pass from the right wing, but already from Tomasz Kendzery, Vitaly Buyalsky was able to score. In that episode, the Spanish club’s goalkeeper played brilliantly, falling to the right corner of himself, hitting the ball for a corner with his left hand.
The end of the first half was dominated by the local team. Three points in the last four minutes were Pedri, Lionel Messi and Annecy Fati. In two of them Ruslan Nesheret played great, and after Messi hit the ball he hit Ilya Zabarny and flew off the field next to the post.
Immediately after the break, in the 46th minute, Viktor Tsygankov ran head-to-head with Ter Stegen, but was unable to throw the ball over him. And right there, after a corner kick, Tomas Kendzer scored a header. However, the match referee, Englishman Michael Oliver, annulled the goal, having heard the tip of his lateral assistant. The thing is, after Viktor Tsygankov’s serve, the ball flew out of the field in the air.
Vladislav Supryaga had one more decisive moment in the 53rd minute. He came face to face with Ter Stegen in the Barcelona penalty area. It seemed that the ball had nowhere to go, how to end up in the net, but the Barcelona goalkeeper, by some miracle, kicked the ball for a corner.
Only in the 58th minute did the home team get a chance to increase the score when a free kick was awarded close to the Dynamo goal. Lionel Messi hit in the upper left corner, but Ruslan Nescheret hit the ball in a jump. Once again, the Kiev goalkeeper rescued his team in the 64th minute after shooting at point-blank range from Sergi Roberto. But already in the next minute, and he was helpless, when the experienced central defender Gerard Piquet hit his head precisely from six meters, closing the pass from the left to Annecy Fati.
In the 67th minute, for the second time in this match, Viktor Tsygankov ran one on one with Ter Stegen and lost this micro-product to him again. And yet the Dynamo team captain managed to achieve success in the 75th minute. The guests’ scoring attack began on the left wing. There was a transfer to the center of the penalty area, from where Benjamin Verbic delivered a low blow. And in this episode Ter Stegen took the ball, but Viktor Tsygankov, who came running, was faster and finished the ball in the goal.
Then the game went on a collision course. In the 80th minute, Usman Dembele aimed for the left “nine”, but once again Ruslan Nesheret played brilliantly. And this, perhaps, was the most dangerous moment of the last period of the match.
2: 1: a difficult victory for Barcelona in a match in which the Dynamo at least could not lose.
