In the Poltava region, doctors diagnosed a local resident with West Nile fever after he developed a fever, weakness and muscle pain. The patient was hospitalized.

This rare disease was discovered in a resident of the Zenkovsky district of the Poltava region. The reference virological laboratory of the State Institution “Center of Public Health of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine” by the method of immunofluorescence detected IgG antibodies against West Nile virus.
The Ministry of Health clarified that, as of August 27, 2020, the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) recorded 122 cases of West Nile fever infection, ten people died. In particular, it was found in Greece (54 cases, including eight deaths), Spain (44, including two deaths), Italy (22), and Romania (2). An outbreak of the disease continues in Spain (province of Seville).
There is no vaccine to prevent West Nile fever. The Health Ministry also said that an infected person is not contagious.
“There is no documentary evidence of person-to-person transmission as long as standard infection control measures are followed,” – He said in the message.
