Lyashko spoke about the situation with the PCR tests
Ukrainian laboratories lack equipment for PCR tests, after which they finally confirm the disease.
Chief Medical Officer Viktor Lyashko said the labs lacked equipment to perform PCR tests for the coronavirus, as he said on the air on the ICTV channel.
“We have to understand where the tests are done. Unfortunately, in our hospitals there were never any PCR amplifiers, there are only a few dozen of them for 1,500 hospitals,” he said.
Therefore, due to the lack of amplifiers, the tests are carried out “exclusively in the laboratory centers of the old SES, where virologists can work in laboratories with a certain class of protection.”
Lyashko also said that the testing strategy for COVID-19 was developed taking into account the widespread use of rapid tests.
“When we calculated the testing strategy, everyone expected that all GPs had rapid tests. But now the WHO, Spain, France, all rejected rapid tests, all work with PCR and we only report on PCR tests” . he said.
Also, the chief doctor noted that in Ukraine there is a fairly high rate of detection of the disease.
“In many countries, they strive for detectability at the 3% level, today we have a detectability of more than 10%, that is, the number of cases detected from the tests we perform. We perform tests more accurately, for example, we perform 4,000 tests, 400 cases have been identified, “he said.
