In late March BYD reported that it had created a heavy duty battery for electric vehicles. Now, another Chinese automatic unit has created such a battery: the start of Aiways.
As in the case of BYD batteries, the development characteristic of Aiways is a high level of protection: it is assumed that during an accident the battery will not be subject to deformation and therefore the risk of ignition is minimized. Keep in mind that turning on an electric car battery in a collision is a common problem.
Chinese engineers managed to improve safety thanks to the battery design. The Aiways battery pack, whose capacity, incidentally, is 63 kWh, has a sandwich structure (read, a multi-layer sandwich): it consists of cells, a radiator, a cooling system and an insulating plate. And it is the insulating plate that plays the role of the shield: it is located between the radiator and the cells, and in case of deformation of the block it does not allow leaks of coolant (coolant). The developer observes that in most cases (80%) the leakage of the “refrigerant” in the dry part of the cells leads to the ignition of the battery during or after the first few minutes after the accident.
Another function of the protective plate is additional thermal insulation. Aiways says that thanks to it, the battery loses less energy in the cold season: tests have shown that the Aiways U5 electric crossover equipped with “waterproof” batteries can travel 300 km on a single charge at a “water” temperature of 0 degrees Celsius (this Electric car will appear soon in Europe). However, the integrated system plays an important role in evaluating and monitoring the degree of load (SOC), which has a high degree of deep self-training and tells the driver how to improve the car’s energy efficiency.
Previously, OBOZREVATEL spoke about the development of an electric vehicle battery, which is designed for a range of 2,000 km.
