Christian compassion should bear ripe fruit, said Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Cyril, referring to clerics deprived of material support due to quarantine.
In connection with the closure of quarantined churches, the patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC), Cyril, asked the Russians to help the clergy financially. This is stated in her appeal on the occasion of Women’s Day with Holy Myrrh published on May 3 on the website of the Russian Orthodox Church.
“This pain is in my heart when … I think of the clergy who worship behind closed doors and are deprived of material support today. But just as faith without love brings no benefit to a person, Christian compassion should have results Visible. And so, I turned to wealthy and willing people to church with a humble request to provide material support to our clergy, “said Cyril.
According to him, his pleas were heard.
“This may not radically change the situation, but each of us today must do what is in his power to help his neighbor,” said the head of the Russian Orthodox Church.
He also emphasized that “from the beginning of this situation” he understood that it was a “dangerous and insidious disease”.
An outbreak of coronavirus infection started in December 2019 in Wuhan, China. March 11, 2020 World Health Organization announced the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
On March 29, Cyril urged believers not to attend church because of COVID-19.
