In Ukraine, after raising the retirement age of women from April 1, 2021 to 60 years the rules will not change until the total life expectancy in the country increases.

This was announced on the air of the Ukrainian TV channel by the adviser to the Minister of Social Policy Mykola Shambir. According to him, after raising the retirement age, Ukrainian women live on retirement an average of about 21 years, the same situation in other European countries.

At the same time, according to the minister’s adviser, in Ukraine there is no possibility of further raising the retirement age until the general life expectancy increases. “I think it is not worth talking about raising the retirement age now. First of all, you need to achieve the life expectancy indicators, then you can talk about raising the retirement age,” said Shambir.

The minister’s adviser recalled that now in many European countries the retirement age is about 65 years. The decision to increase the retirement age for women was made in 2011, and the last stage of this increase took place in April 2021.

“If in Europe, in many countries, the retirement age is 65 years. Ukraine, due to life expectancy, and this is connected, can not achieve such indicators. In 2011, a decision was made to increase the age of retirement in Ukraine. A woman in Europe receives a pension of about 19-21 years. We also have a woman who receives a pension of 21 years. Our life expectancy is lower, but the figures are comparable to those of Europe, “says the expert.

As OBOZREVATEL previously wrote, in Ukraine on April 1, 2021, the last stage of raising the retirement age for women took place – from 59.5 to 60 years. Women who were born before April 1, 1961 in 2021 could enjoy a well-deserved break starting at the age of 59.5. As of April 1, the retirement age will be 60 years.
