The foreign ministries of the two states reacted to the deterioration of the situation in eastern Ukraine
The foreign ministries of the two states announced their readiness to continue negotiations in the Normandy format.
Germany and France are following developments in eastern Ukraine, as well as on the Russian-Ukrainian border, calling for a stabilization of the situation. This is stated in a joint statement from the Chancellery of the two states, published on Saturday, April 3, on the website of the French department.
Thus, diplomats expressed concern about an increase in the number of violations of the ceasefire in Donbas, established in July 2020.
“We are following the situation with great diligence, including Russian troop movements, and we call on the parties to contain and immediately reduce tensions,” the document says.
In addition, the countries, as mediators in the Normandy format negotiations, announced their intention to continue their efforts to fully implement the Minsk agreements.
Also in a statement, the foreign ministries of the two states welcomed the extension of the mandate of the OSCE Special Observer Mission in Ukraine and called for “an end to restrictions on their freedom of movement so that the SMM of the OSCE can carry out its mission in accordance with its mandate. “
Finally, both France and Germany have expressed their unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders.
