It took about a month for the Ivano-Frankivsk region to stabilize a new wave of the coronavirus epidemic. Mortality and morbidity in the region has been reduced on average by halfAlthough the situation remains dire and local doctors are still unable to breathe a sigh of relief.
On the one hand, Enhanced “red” zone quarantine measures… On the other hand – “natural” immunization… The population was sick with coronavirus en masse and the most persistent developed antibodies. In fact, even according to official morbidity statistics, which almost no one believes in Ukraine, the Carpathian region is among the regions most affected by COVID-19.
What is happening and how they live in the region now, read the OBOZREVATEL material.
The epidemic began to stabilize from mid-March.
Health Minister Maxim Stepanov said yesterday that The Ivano-Frankivsk region may soon go from the “red” to the “orange” or even the “yellow” zone.
According to, this region, together with Transcarpathia and Bucovina, shows stable epidemiological indicators… Since March 29, kindergartens and a primary school have even resumed their work in the region.
This fact is confirmed by official statistics from the National Defense and Security Council – as of March 30, less than half of the 3,203 oxygen beds in the region, 1,511, were occupied. This is 47%, although a week ago the workload of hospitals was 56%, and at the peak of the epidemic it reached 66% …
It was decided to move the Ivano-Frankivsk region to the “red” quarantine zone on February 26, and the next day it was registered there. a record incidence rate of 892 people with coronavirus… Closer to mid-March, the numbers were roughly halved, with about 300 cases per day being reported in recent days. Yes, this is still a lot, but the effectiveness of the strict quarantine is visible without further ado.
“During the past week, from March 22 to 28, 2,522 cases of coronavirus were confirmed, 16.5% less than a week before (3,020 cases – ed.). During the month’s quarantine, the incidence was cut in half. Restrictive measures have taken effect, hospitalization rates and the percentage of beds occupied with oxygen have decreased“, – confirmed OBOZREVATEL the head of the department of monitoring organization of the Public Health Center Oksana Koshalko.
“Natural” vaccine instead of CoviShield
The stabilization of the situation was influenced not only by the quarantine, but also by the fact that a large part of the population has already formed immunity after the disease, even during the previous waves of the epidemic. OBOZREVATEL was informed about this by the chief physician of the Ivano-Frankivsk Central City Clinical Hospital Taras Maslyak.
He said that in his hospital about 30% of medical personnel have been ill and already have antibodies… Obviously, people have to rely on “natural” vaccination rather than on vaccines with scarce drugs. After all Since the start of immunization, only about 9,000 people have received injections in the region.
“But it doesn’t matter what we say, but the quarantine did its thing. At its peak, more than 100 critically ill patients were seen per day, and now there are fewer than 50. And then there were the taverns, the parties, the churches … I’m not sure about Bukovel, because people were outdoors there. There will be Easter and, I suspect, there will be a splash again. I am not blaspheming, but I urge, including priests, to adhere to the quarantine. I was driving down the road through a town: hundreds of people without masks together at work. Is this correct? “- the doctor was outraged.
COVID-19 has become more unpredictable
According to Maslyak, the current wave of coronavirus, like the previous one, has hit people over the age of 50. The number of young people in the hospital is 3-4% of all patients.
“There were many people over 80 who took care of themselves and did not get sick in the previous waves. Some of them die due to comorbidities. There were deaths among young people in poor health. Especially who has an onco. Covid extracts all the rotten things that are in our body. Today a 47-year-old woman with pancreatic cancer passed away. Before that, a young man in his 30s had left. They started looking for the cause and he had leukemia, which he didn’t even know about. Although she had a headache somewhere, there were nosebleeds, but the men paid no attention to her. Most Ukrainians are under-examined, “said the doctor.
Maslyak, like other doctors, noted that the current powerful wave of coronavirus is caused by new and more aggressive strains. Shapes of lightwhen the patients’ symptoms were only the disappearance of taste or smell, getting smaller… The disease is now progressing significantly more difficult and unpredictable.
“I myself have had the second time. I spent four weeks in hospitals, but it is good that I did not die. Diarrhea, abdominal pain, headache, the temperature immediately rose to 39-40 degrees. I suffered for a week, I was like wood, “admitted the doctor …
Ukraine needs a blockade!
The experience of the Ivano-Frankivsk region confirms once again the words of the doctors who have long and persistently urged the authorities for a national closure. It is possible to stop the spread of the coronavirus only with strict restrictions, because now in Ukraine there are simply not enough doctors to treat patients.
According to Olga Golubovskaya, a leading infectious disease specialist at the Ministry of Health, if a blockade is not urgently introduced, in a week or two “the quiet regions will also catch fire.” He recently emphasized that such a large number of people have never died from the coronavirus in a short period of time in the country.
And given the virtual absence of mass vaccination, Ukraine needs a total quarantine like air. And in this situation, the government does not even have the moral right to choose between economic indicators and the lives of Ukrainians. You need a lock. Urgently.
