Ukraine intends to start producing hydrogen
Ukraine has the capacity to produce billions of cubic meters of hydrogen a year, according to UN experts.
Ukraine can produce an average of about 5.5 billion cubic meters of “green” hydrogen annually. This was announced on Monday, March 29, by the State Energy Efficiency Agency.
The study of the potential of hydrogen technologies in Ukraine was carried out by experts from the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe with the support of the State Ministry of Energy and Energy Efficiency.
It is observed that the results showed the feasibility of introducing a hydrogen economy, ample opportunities for it, as well as the benefits of the infrastructure connected to the EU.
According to the ministry, hydrogen production will be able to provide flexibility in the operation of the electricity system, decarbonization of the industry and the transport sector, as well as long-term storage of electricity.
To implement the program for the development of hydrogen energy in Ukraine until 2050, it is necessary:
-
develop legislation and standards for the production, transportation, storage and use of hydrogen;
-
develop incentives;
-
implement a pilot project for the production of “green” hydrogen;
-
to develop hydrogen transport infrastructure.
Earlier, the Cabinet of Ministers stated that one of the most important areas in Ukraine’s negotiations with the EU is the development of hydrogen technologies and the creation of a hydrogen ecosystem.
