Crimea will present claims about the water blockage to three citizens of Ukraine, who acted as its organizers. This was stated by the president of the republic’s parliament, Vladimir Konstantinov, reports RIA Novosti on Sunday, March 28.

“The lawsuit will be brought against three Ukrainian citizens who have repeatedly, including in the media, declared their participation in the organization of the water blockade, which must be classified as an attempt of genocide and physical destruction of people,” said the official.

According to Konstantinov, the claims will be filed against Verkhovna Rada deputy of Ukraine Mustaf Dzhemilev and former deputies Refat Chubarov and Andrey Senchenko. The official added that both the current and previous leadership of Ukraine are responsible for the water blockade of Crimea.

The deputy speaker of the Crimean parliament, Efim Fiks, noted that the amount of damage, according to preliminary estimates, amounted to 1.47 trillion rubles.

Crimea became part of Russia in 2014 after a referendum in which the majority of the inhabitants of the peninsula supported this decision. Ukraine considers this territory annexed, so it blocked the Northern Crimean Canal that runs from the Dnieper, which previously provided more than 80 percent of the peninsula’s freshwater needs.
