Ukraine plans to reach the conditions to join the EU within 10 years, but some member states are skeptical about expanding the union.

Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal sees two obstacles to Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. He spoke about European integration plans in an interview with the German daily Handelsblatt.

“There are two reasons why we are not yet in the EU. We are still working on European standards, but we are confident that we will make significant progress, especially thanks to digitization. At the same time, he said that Ukraine wants to join the EU in 5-10 years.

Shmygal believes that accession to the European Union will be possible when European standards are met in the fight against corruption or in justice.

In addition, negotiations are ongoing today on an agreement on the Joint Aviation Space and common rules for the energy market.

“Ukraine is ready to become a member of the EU; we are striving to achieve it as soon as possible. Many Ukrainians gave their lives in the war with Russia for this idea … Our wish is to become a member of the EU within 5 to 10 years “. years. The same terms apply to joining NATO, the prime minister added.

Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the authorities are creating a coalition of Ukraine’s lobbying countries in the EU. According to him, European countries will push for Ukraine to join the European Union. In particular, a corresponding declaration was signed with Lithuania.
