The presence of antibodies after the coronavirus is no guarantee that a person will not get sick again. Only antibodies that are produced after vaccination can protect against severe COVID-19 and hospitalization.
This was stated by the Director General of the Center for Public Health, Roman Rodina, during a press conference “Antibodies against COVID-19: Is it worth relaxing?” March 18, press center of the institution.
As he noted, most COVID-19 patients began to develop virus-specific IgM, IgA, and IgG antibodies, but they are not the ones to which an immune response is formed during vaccination. After vaccination, antibodies are produced against a specific fragment of the virus, in the case of SARS-CoV-2, against a spike protein.
According to him, those who have antibodies after illness still get sick again. However, 12-14 days after vaccination, the incidence rate among those vaccinated practically does not increase, and if there are cases of diseases, they are not serious.
“Now scientists say that the presence of antibodies is no guarantee that a person will not get sick. According to laboratory centers, as of March 16, 1,362 people were registered who fell ill with COVID-19 again after recovering from reinfection varies. from 2 to 8 months ”- said the Homeland.
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, the Health Ministry’s Center for Public Health said it is not necessary to test for COVID-19 antibodies or antigens before or after vaccination.
