On Saturday March 20, in Östersund, Sweden, the women’s chase race took place as part of the 10th stage of the World Cup.
Norway’s Tiril Eckhoff has won five pursuit races in a row this season, but was unable to extend her winning streak. Partially hampered by severe weather conditions, which turned the work on the shooting lines into a lottery.
Eckhoff had four penalties in the race to finish second. Another Norwegian Martha Royseland took advantage of this, managing to shoot without fail from a prone position, and in the stands, Olsby relied on the rate of fire – and did not lose. Even after 2 + 2 misses, he managed to finish first with confidence.
For the first time in her career, Belarusian Anna Sola took the podium after the results of the chase, which became her third with five penalties. In February, Anna won the bronze medal of the Sprint World Championship, so this result can no longer be considered a sensation.
Only three Ukrainian women participated in the race, as Julia Dzhima did not start in the interest of maximum preparation for the mass start. Elena Pidgrushnaya managed to close the top 30, and Daria Blashko made a mini-break from 54th starting position to 37th final. Valya Semerenko started 44th and finished. There was not a single clean shot fired by Ukrainian women.
