The German government has discussed with the United States at various levels the issue of sanctions against Nord Stream 2. The German cabinet rejects the restriction measures on US gas pipelines.
This is stated in the response of the Cabinet of Ministers to the parliamentary investigation of the Free Democratic Party faction, reports RIA Novosti. The government added that the negotiations with the United States on Nord Stream 2 are “confidential”, the authorities do not provide information on its content.
“Regarding the US sanctions rejected by the US government and the threat of sanctions in relation to Nord Stream 2, the German government held discussions with the US administration at various levels. It worked closely with the EU and EU partners on the issue of extraterritorial sanctions and participated in 2020 and 2021 in the efforts of several EU member states in Washington against these US sanctions. The federal government is also in contact with companies involved in the project, “the statement said.
Also in Germany, they believe that the fund created in support of Nord Stream 2 complies with German and European laws. “The German government stems from the fact that the fund complies with national and EU laws,” the document says.
It should be remembered that the construction of the second Nord Stream 2 line in Danish waters should start at the end of March. This period was indicated in the schedule of Nord Stream 2 AG, which was provided by the Danish Energy Agency (DEA).
