The Sunday afternoon of the 18th round of the UPL can be compared to a good lunch. We are serious. At first, as a warm-up, the audience was served with snacks in the form of a “Mariupol” – “Kolos” match. It was nutritious enough. After that, there were two main dishes on the table. The chefs brought them in at the same time, forcing fans to throw up a bit, so no one got the maximum pleasure from the food. As a light dessert, if someone was hungry, a match awaited us at the “Nika” stadium – “Alexandria” hosted the scandalous “Olímpico”. The dish is not that pretty in appearance, but there were some spices in here that added flavor.
After the goal disallowed against Shakhtar, the Donetsk club have been in the spotlight for the past eight days. They got down to business with the kickoff, pushing the “Olympian” to his own possessions. During the first half, the hosts managed to create three or four solid chances, after which the team was forced to open an account. Already in the second minute, Banada was able to score, after that Luchkevich had a bit of bad luck, who, due to the absence of Kovalets, became the first violin of Sharan’s orchestra. And when “Alexandria” fails to score from the field, standards will always come to the rescue. That is the axiom. The key moment of the first half was a corner kick from Vantukh, which Bondarenko finished off with a header. An accurate shot and the center’s fourth goal this season. Valery is clearly benefiting from the current lease.
What could Olympic be against? Almost nothing. It can be seen that the Donetsk club is now seriously assaulting and the arrival of Kalitvintsev, with all due respect to Yuri Nikolaevich, has not yet given anything new. Nkeng and not close to the Shahab Zahedi peak, there is simply no replacement for the injured Benito, and the support zone has become too empty after Tsymbalyuk’s injury. Unfortunately, you must agree.
The second half was carried out in the image and likeness of the first: “Alexandria” played more actively, pushed better and created many more opportunities. Courage managed to catch Betim Alimi, without whom, probably, the score would have been much higher. The Olimpik goalkeeper helped over and over again, preventing Sitalo from scoring, then Luchkevich, then Grechishkin. But the advantage remained minimal, which put a bit on Vladimir Sharan’s nerves. Who, if not him, understands the precariousness of such a situation. Any more or less dangerous moment, any small defense error could cost the “townspeople” two points. Fortunately for them, the current “Olympic” is not about goals. Perhaps Kalitvintsev’s team will regain more form, but there is no trace of the former team, who scored against Alexandria three times in the half. Now the residents of Donetsk are no different from “Minai”, “Lvov” and “Ingulets”, who are struggling to survive. That is the sad reality with which Vladislav Gelzin will have to come to terms.
Already in injury time, Alexandria scored for the second time, marking the final score of the match. Stetskov landed a precise blow to the head and, curiously, again behind the standard. Sharan’s team got a pretty sure victory, if we talk about the game as a whole. But there is a problem: the implementation. We’re sure the current hosts should have scored more than two on the xG trend. Any less critical team will punish such waste, which means that Vladimir Bogdanovich will have to work on this component.
