Colossus 1: 4. Markevich’s team keeps falling ᐉ UA-Football

The last two meetings have seriously raised the level of adherence to principles in the confrontation between “Mariupol” and “Kolos”. Last summer, Kovalivtsy beat Azov in the UPL playoff final for a place in the Europa League, and in the first round of the current championship, Kostyshin’s team won thanks to an illegal penalty in the final seconds.

However, it is unlikely that Ostap Markevich drew attention to the story, the coach of “Mariupol” was probably more concerned about the present. His team has yet to win in 2021, plus the train of a failed series caught late last year. Of course, it is worth taking into account the level of the opponents, most of whom were representatives of the upper half of the tournament table. In this case, the game with “Kolos” could be considered as a test of the real level of the team, because at the beginning of the round the opponents were relatively close to each other in the ranking.

After the defeat to Vorskla, the Mariupol manager shook the foundations quite a bit, but not only because of disqualifications and injuries, but also for some reason of his own. Galchuk, who saved a lot in Poltava, stayed on the bench, Kudrik went out the door. Instead of Kiryukhantsev, Melichenko played on the right, the disqualified Bykov was replaced by Mampasi, 18, and not by the more experienced Sagutkin. Mark became a partner of Chobotenko, who served his sentence. In the absence of Tankovsky, Mishnev sank further, who, together with Cech, had to occupy the center of the field. Under forward Kulakov (Sikan is injured) is the attacking troika of Gorbunov, Bondarenko and Topalov.

Ruslan Kostyshin surprised by leaving Andrey Bogdanov on the bench. Perhaps the seasoned midfielder is not in the best shape at the moment, or perhaps it was a gimmick from the Kolos head coach. Formally, Orihovsky acted alongside second defensive player Zadoya. However, Pavel doesn’t fill the space in midfield as efficiently as Bogdanov. As a result, “Mariupol” had the opportunity to quickly cross the center of the field with a large number of players. But “Kolos” only needed that, because the formal guests (they say that in the next round the Azov team will finally be able to play in their hometown at their home stadium) had the opportunity to attack the tight space in the opponent’s half. field. Considering the launch of three technical and high-speed attacking players, Antyukh, Churko and Kostyshin Jr., these attacks seemed much more dangerous than the “Mariupol” attacks.

Already in the opening, Kudrik had to deflect Antyukh’s blow in the near corner from an average distance. After a corner, won in this attack, Lysenko scored with a header, however, the referee saw a violation of the rules by the Kolos striker. However, Kovalivtsy did not regret much about this – already on the next counterattack there was a serve from the left flank, Kostyshin, who acted as a tied striker, threw the ball back to Churko with his head, took out the defender in the swing and the shot passed the goalkeeper.

It took “Mariupol” ten minutes to recover, after which Markevich’s attackers responded with two good shots from Bondarenko (from outside the area) and Topalov (after passing the wing from 18 meters to the bottom corner). But in both cases, Valeriy Kucheruk played reliably, who unexpectedly replaced Kolos Volyntsi’s main goalkeeper (they say he caught a cold). Once again, Kucheruk entered the game as Kulakov pushed his way down the left flank and struck almost from zero angle.

It seemed that “Mariupol” little by little began to find play in attack, but the failure in defense nullified all the efforts of the creative group. A simple serve from the left flank came as a complete surprise to the Azov team: Kostyshin burst into the goalkeeper’s line, gained a position against Stasyuk and hit his head on Kudrik’s hands. Furthermore, even in the first half, “Kolos” could completely eliminate the question of the winner, if on the next counterattack from the same left flank he passed a more accurate pass to Ilyin, who replaced the injured Churko. But Oleg had to handle the ball with the first touch, and the defender managed to cover the blow.

To the credit of “Mariupol”, Azov did not wait for the coach’s instructions during the break, but still managed to recover a goal and keep the intrigue for the second half. The ball turned out to be very effective: transferring from the right flank to the left, Stasyuk accepted and delivered a serve to the center of the penalty area, from where Bondarenko hit his head just below the crossbar in the fall. It was here that Bogdanov was lacking, although “Mariupol’s” attack went well, with abrupt changes in the vectors, which allowed the opponent’s defense to stretch.

The “locker room goal” promised us an interesting second half. With the opening whistle, Bondarenko confirmed his expectations with a rapid advance through the center and a somewhat inaccurate shot from 20 meters. However, the youth and inexperience of the defense of “Mariupol” (or the insufficient work of the coaching staff) in three minutes removed all the tension. After a Kovalivtsy corner kick, Kudrik missed the ball in his hands, crashing into his own player, and the central Kolos Novak scored an empty net from ten meters.

Markevich’s attempt to influence the game by replacing the effect did not work. During the break, Kashchuk appeared on the field, and immediately after the third goal, Ocheretko and Drambaev. Azov tried to advance, but “Kolos” defended quite confidently, and from time to time he put pressure on the opponent, not allowing him to pass to the other side. Finally, in the 61st minute, the outcome of the match was finally decided: Vladimir Lysenko hit his head in the nine after a corner kick from the match’s hero, Denis Kostyshin. Again we have to celebrate Mampasi’s failed actions: Mark slipped and allowed the forward to attack without interference.

The half hour that remained until the end of the game became a training with greater responsibility. Teams can only be praised for not letting the fans get bored, delighting those with fairly open football. However, “Kolos” was playing too calmly to score fifth, and “Mariupol” was too repressed. 1: 4 at the end – “Mariupol” continues its negative streak, “Kolos” invades the fifth place of “Vorskla”.
