President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a law that strengthened responsibility for violation of traffic rules… In particular, it has tightened the punishment for driving while intoxicated.
Law No. 2695 “On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine Relating to Strengthening Responsibility for Certain Crimes in the Field of Road Safety” will enter into force on the day after its publication. Until the morning of March 13, the document did not appear in the official Verkhovna Rada newspaper “Voice of Ukraine”.
Driver fines
According to the law, minimum fine increased to 510 hryvnia, it is designated for: unbuckled belt, no helmet on the motorcyclist, license plate off, talking on the phone while driving without headphones, violation of the rules for crossing intersections, stops, passing rules, driving in light red.
For over speed in settlements for more than 50 km / h and escaping from the scene of an accident – a fine of up to 3.4 thousand hryvnia.
For not confer an advantage in the movement of an ambulance, police or emergency service car – a fine of up to 680 UAH.
For creation emergency will be punished with a fine of 1,445 UAH and, for an offense that caused an accident, 850 UAH.
Driving a car without a license – a fine of 425 UAH. Lack of rights to drive a car – 3.4 thousand UAH. If a person was previously deprived of his rights, a fine of 20.4 thousand UAH.
When re-offense within a year – a fine of 40.8 thousand UAH with deprivation of the right to conduct transport for a period of 5-7 years and with or without paid withdrawal of a vehicle.
If the driver could alcohol intoxication – a fine of 17 thousand UAH with deprivation of a driving license for one year.
For repeated rape within a year – 34 thousand hryvnias with deprivation of rights for three years. If the driver violates the third time – a fine of 51 thousand UAH, deprivation of rights for 10 years and confiscation of the car.
For an accident in a state alcohol, drug, or other intoxication, as a result of which the victim received moderate injuries, will be punished imprisonment of up to three years with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a period of three to five years.
If the victim received a serious injury: imprisonment for a period of 3 to 8 years (deprivation of rights of 5 to 8 years).
In case of death of the victim – imprisonment of 5 to 10 years (deprivation of rights for a period of 5 to 10 years). If there are several victims of traffic accidents: imprisonment for 7 to 12 years (deprivation of rights for 7 to 10 years).
Furthermore, the law states that a criminal caught driving drunk for the second time in a year by the police could be arrested instead.
Among other things, the law on increased liability for traffic offenses provides the elimination of the rule on the accumulation of penalty points, as well as the annulment of the suspended sentence and the possibility of bailing a person.
Furthermore, the law states that the court was denied the opportunity to release of the responsibility of those rapists who were caught for the first time and repented.
Note that drunk driving fines It will apply not only to car drivers, but also to those who manage river, sea or small vessels.
At the same time increased fines for other offenses:

from 10 tax-free minimums to 30 (510 UAH) – to drive a driver of a vehicle that is not registered or not re-registered in Ukraine;

from 15 “minimum wages” to 40 (680 UAH) – for a repeated violation.
Fines for pedestrians and cyclists
Pedestrians who cross the street in the wrong place face a fine of 255 UAH. If the cyclist violated traffic rules, a fine of 340 UAH. For the same violations committed while intoxicated – 680 UAH, for creating an emergency – 850 UAH.
