The European Union supports the decision of the United States to impose sanctions on the Ukrainian businessman Igor Kolomoisky.
The European Union representative for foreign policy made a statement in this regard on Wednesday 10 March. Peter stano in response to a request from journalists. This was reported by the DW edition.
Stano pointed out that corruption was the reason for the restrictions. According to him, the EU supports “the US decision to impose an entry ban on Mr. Kolomoisky for significant corruption during his work as a high-ranking official in the Ukrainian government.”
He added that in the EU sanctions regimes related to Ukraine, there is “no criterion for imposing sanctions on those responsible for corruption.”
The EU representative also recalled the importance of coordinating policy with the United States on issues in which there are common interests with the European Union.
Let’s remember:
-
On March 5, the United States imposed sanctions against Kolomoisky on corruption charges, as well as against the businessman’s wife, daughter and son.
-
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said the decision was made in connection with Kolomoisky’s activities in 2014-15 as chairman of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration.
-
Exactly what measures imply restrictions became known: a ban on entry into the United States.
As OBOZREVATEL reported, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s press secretary Yulia Mendel said that the US sanctions against Kolomoisky are “symbolic” and indicate that the US has evidence of his corrupt activities. At the same time, the question of Ukraine’s sanctions against him remains open.
